Cultivate a Relationship with Local Ohio Growers

By 5  pm on

Looking for fresh, local produce? No problem! Every Thursday through October 25, the Arena District in Columbus hosts its very own farmer’s market. This event which is put on by the Pearl Alley Grower’s Association, highlights fresh vegetables and fruit, baked goods, an assortment of sweets, jams, jellies and more. Head over from 11am to 1:30pm, meet local growers and enjoy some of the finest products Ohio has to offer. Many of our wonderful suburbs have the same type of weekly events that encourage healthy eating and a strong local economy.

Many people are under the impression that farmer’s markets end once the summer months pass, but this is not quite true. The first few weeks of fall are busy for farmers, as well. The change in season gradually segues into traditional fall crops including our favorite leafy greens such as kale, chard and broccoli, as well as butternut squash, a vitamin and omega-3 packed vegetable that offers countless benefits to seniors. At Columbus Home Care Assistance, we couldn’t be happier with the availability of this fresh produce for our clients and seniors in Ohio.

Never been to a farmer’s market and don’t know where to start? Is downtown too far away? At recent count, there were 38 weekly farmers markets in central Ohio, including Hilliard and Easton, Bexley and Reynoldsburg, German Village, Grandview, Granville and more. There’s even a Columbus Winter Farm Market that runs from November through March. Buy fruits, vegetables, coffee, jams and honey (which studies show not only boosts your immune system, soothes indigestion and bolsters energy levels, it is a healthy add on to sweeten up morning yogurt or oatmeal, wheat toast and green tea. )

With a strong belief that a healthy and nutritious diet is an important component to exceptional senior health and longevity, it’s no surprise that we love the Ohio’s farmers markets!
