If your loved one is reaching the end of their life, you may be considering hospice services. Because the decision involves a wide range of emotions and is dependent upon the health status of your loved one, it can difficult to determine when the right time is to seek hospice care and support.
Through the combined efforts of physicians, nurses, caregivers and social workers, hospice care is designed to help individuals live comfortably at the end-of-life and help family members to cope with the circumstances. Care will not hasten or prolong life, but will allow death to occur naturally. At Home Care Assistance of Columbus, we understand how difficult the decision for hospice care can be. To help our clients decide when to seek hospice care, we’ve provided a few situations that may indicate the need for hospice care:
– You or your loved one has consciously decided to stop all treatments and medications resulting in a further decline in health.
– The disease has progressed to a level where treatments are no longer working.
– Treatments are making pain caused by the disease or illness worse than the disease itself.
– Your loved one has reached a stage of frailty where there is no longer interest in repeat trips to the hospital for treatment, and comfort care is the best option.
